Field Trip Suggestions for Cub Scouts

 

These Field Trips can be used to meet different requirements for different things.   Please add to the list and pass it on to help others in their programs.  It is sometimes easier not to have to reinvent the wheel.

 http://www.fieldtripfactory.com is also a convenient place to set up field trips.  They will do the leg work, you just give them the place and date.

 

1.     Public Library- Call the facility that you would like to visit. 

 Tigers, Wolves elective #6.

2.     Radio Stations- Call the station and explain that you want to come and look at how they work.  KMBZ- Sports Radio was very fun to go to.  Tigers- How I Tell It-Go and See #4G Bears #17C.

3.     Junior High Sports Programs- Call the Junior High and ask when they are playing games. Tigers- Keeping Myself Safe and Healthy Go and See.

4.     High School Plays- Call the schools for a calendar of times when they will have school plays. Can serve for Tigers-Elective #36, or Wolves Requirement #10.

5.     Deanna Rose or the Arboretum- Visit the gardens. Deanna Rose –Wolf Grow Something and Conservation badge requirement.

6.     Fire Station- Contact the Station you would like to visit to set up a Go and See.  Tigers- Where I Live-Go and See, Bears #11.

7.     Police Station- Contact the Police Station.  They will give you a tour and you will receive information about the programs they provide.  Tigers- Public Safety, Wolves-Requirement #8, Bears- Requirement #7

8.     City Hall- Call for a tour and sometimes you can get the Mayor to take you.  You will see the Chamber where City Meetings are held and “Go Behind” the scenes to the backroom. Tigers – Elective #49, Wolves- Requirement #4F.

9.     County Courthouse- This one you can do without an appointment.  You can go into the empty courtrooms and talk about how the way court proceedings work. The boys will get a Badge to wear. Tigers – Elective #49, Wolves Requirement #4F.

10. Moon Marble Factory- Call for a Tour, Start of a marble Collection, Talk about the History of Marbles and Play a marbles game.  There is a fee with this trip. Collections Belt Loop, Tiger- Elective #16, All of Marble Belt Loop, Wolves Requirement #6 and Bears #23B.

11. Art Belt Loop or Requirements- Call Chris Olson and she will come and go through your Art Electives or work on your Art Belt Loop at your meeting place.  Cost for the materials is charged. Art Belt Loop

12. Bowling Alley- Call and schedule a time to go and bowl.  Bowling Belt Loop, Wolves- requirement #10 Bears #23A.

13. Meet at the Movies- Wolves- Requirement #10.

14. Prairie Life Fitness Center- Call Kim Nelson to schedule a “Night at the Gym”.  You can work on your Physical Fitness Loop or Wolves- Requirement #1 and Bears #16.

15. Home Depot- Check with the desk for the times and dates and what is offered. Meets the Wolves Requirement #5 or Elective #3A Bears #20.

16. Hayrack Ride Through Heritage Park- Call Johnson County Parks and Rec- (913) 831-3355 to schedule a Fall Hayrack Ride.  You will need to set this up at the end of August, First of September.  The ride includes apple cider, Marshmallows and roasting sticks around a fire ring at the end.  cost per people over 2 for this is $5.50. Leave No Trace, Wolves- Elective #11C and Elective -#23G Bears #12D.

17. Ernie Miller Nature Park- Go hiking and look at the maps of the area. Tigers- Let’s Go Outside Go and See- 5G.  Use this for your Map and Compass Loop, or Leave No Trace badge. Wolves Requirement #10D Bears #5D and 12B,

18. Olathe Daily News-Tiger- How I Tell It – Go and See  Bears #17C. 

19. Olathe Towers- Call and ask if you can have someone, that grew up in a different country, tell you what things were like. Language and Culture Belt loop #1. Can be a Tiger- Making My Family Special- Go and See Bears #8B.

20. Overland Park Arboretum – Walk through the gardens and fill several requirements- Tigers- Let’s Go Outdoors Go and See, Wolves- Requirement #10D, Elective #15FE.

21. Deanna Rose- Go to see the Master Gardener’s Exhibit and walk around the grounds. Wolves Requirement #10D, Elective #15FE, Tigers- Let’s Get Outside go and See.

22. Go and Ride the JO!- Johnson County Bus Service, known also as the JO, has a ride all you want for $1.00 a day.  Route information is available at  http://www.thejo.com and also at the library.  Tiger Elective #48.

23. Johnson County Extension Building- Call Neil Angrifano for a time to have your Scouts go and see a Green Building.

24. Price Chopper and Hen House Grocery Stores- There are Tiger, Wolf and Bear  requirements to be filled with this trip!
